Jeremy Honold

Hello there,

In February of 2019, I am attempting to do something that isn’t very popular - I, along with some coaching friends, will be racing around the entire island of Oahu. This 134 mile relay race will take place over President’s Day weekend. As the Head Hanalani Cross-Country and Track & Field Coach, and still a runner myself, this was an opportunity I couldn’t say no to.

The Hoku Relay started in 2016 by teachers who worked on the Waianae coast, who wanted to make a greater impact on the area. They then started the Hoku Scholars program. The Hoku Scholars aims to assist students K-12 with “pro-active scholarships.” giving low income families the opportunity to have their students participate in extracurricular activities, therefore building a more impressive college profile. To date, the Hoku Scholars program has supported 92 students with over $35,000 given out. And the last thing we need is students who miss an opportunity not because they aren’t qualified for it, but they cannot afford it.

The “minimum donation” goal for each runner is $500. My personal goal is to raise an additional $250, for a total of $750. Having being an Assistant Coach for Nanakuli Cross-Country for a year (2014), I was able to see firsthand the talent and heart these students have, but unfortunately in today’s world, lack of monetary resources will severely damper that dream. And while we can hope and plead for the Government to step in and help, one of the greatest gifts God has bestowed upon mankind is we have an ability to step in and help!

Like God has given us the freedom to choose how we live on Earth, one of the best traits Jesus showed on his life on Earth was he chose to serve. The one who had the most power and authority, decided to lift others up by lowering himself.

“For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” - Matthew 20:28

I believe with me running this race, I can use my platform, however small, to impact a youth’s life for the better. It is my hope and prayer that you would join me, by choosing to help and partner with me as well. While I cannot match every donation dollar for dollar, I will also be contributing as well. I know I have been blessed in my life, and it’s best to choose to follow what Paul writes...

“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” - 2 Corinthians 9:11

Thank for you helping, to prove that we are a people that is not forced to help, but choose to help others. Checks can be made to my name, with the subject being “Hoku Relays”
